The Art of Moisturizing Acne-Prone Skin

One of the biggest challenges when it comes to acne-prone skin is finding the right moisturiser. Like most things related to acne, one moisturiser will not work for everyone's skin type. It's a common assumption that acne-prone skin is always oily, when acne can actually happen to all skin types. If you find yourself struggling to keep your skin hydrated without making your acne worse, here's a guide to some of the best moisturisers for every skin type:

For combination skin

  • Combination skin types are usually oily in the T-zone, with the rest of the face being normal to dry. The key to keeping combination skin hydrated is to find a moisturiser which is both hydrating and mattifying, with a non-comedogenic formula.

  • Uriage Hyseac Mat is an ideal choice for anyone struggling to keep their skin's hydration levels balanced. While it hydrates with ingredients like Uriage Thermal Water and Glycerin, it keeps the skin matte thanks to its formula which is enriched with sebum-regulating agents like liquorice extract. It also has a half-gel, half-cream texture, making it the ideal choice to keep your skin's hydration levels balanced.

For oily skin

  • Do you buy into the common myth that you shouldn't use moisturizer on oily skin in order to dry it out? If you usually skip out on moisturiser then you'd be surprised to hear that this might be making your skin even oilier.

  • The goal of moisturisers is to help your skin hold water. When your skin can't retain enough water it causes the oil glands to go into overdrive. Not to mention, skipping a. moisturiser leaves your skin exposed to pollution and external damage.

  • When looking for a moisturiser which will help regulate your oil production, look for ingredients like Zinc PCA and Niacinamide, which not only mattify your skin but also tackle blemishes.

  • ISDIN Hyfac Shine and spot control Gel cream contains both of these ingredients, combined with hyaluronic acid to help your skin retain water. Its gel texture also means it is easily absorbed without leaving any residue on the skin.

For dry/damaged skin

  • Dry and damaged skin have one thing in common: they need a moisturiser which will strengthen their skin barrier in order to prevent moisture loss and further damage.

  • If your skin has been dried out or damaged by harsh acne treatments then finding a product with ingredients to soothe, hydrate and reconstruct the skin barrier is essential for your skin's recovery and for preventing acne from reemerging.

  • Uriage Hyseac Hydra contains TLR2 REGUL and Prickly pear cactus extract to immediately soothe the skin, as well as Cerasterol-2F to rebuild the skin barrier. It is also non-comedogenic and oil-free.
