Struggling with dry, itchy skin? Here's what you can do about it!

Every year there's a day where you wake up and your skin is suddenly unbearably dry, itchy and flaky. The day you realise that your summer tan is fading and that the temperature suddenly dropped a few degrees. There's no need to let go of that summer glow, even as you take your sweaters out of storage. Here are a few tips that will keep your skin supple and hydrated all winter long!

Hydration starts in the shower

  • While moisturising when you get out of the shower is great for hydrating your skin, why not take it one step further and start with your body wash?

  • Body washes which contain ingredients like glycerin and shea butter lock in hydration right from the cleansing stage. Uriage Xémose Cleansing Soothing Oil cleanses your skin thoroughly while leaving behind a non-greasy protective shield to fortify against external aggression.

  • If you're not ready to let go of your favourite scented body wash yet, I recommend adding a small pump to your hydrating body wash in order to get all the hydrating benefits while still enjoying some fragrance.

Find a body lotion that works for you

  • If you're a busy person who regularly chooses not to apply body lotion because it takes too long to sink in, you can find an alternative instead of skipping this step altogether.

  • Uriage Xémose SOS Mist is a lightweight mist which can be easily sprayed onto the body to moisturise and relieve sensations of itchiness in just 60 seconds. It can be turned upside down to easily spray onto the back and has a 24-hour anti-itch action.

  • If you have a bit more time then I recommend using Uriage Xémose Soothing Oil-Balm to deeply moisturise the skin and relieve sensations of itchiness. Its unique “balm-to-oil” texture leaves a non-greasy protective film for long-lasting comfort.

Don't skimp on supplements

  • While dry skin is a common occurrence as the weather changes it never hurts to take a closer look at your diet and see if you're missing any essential foods.

  • A healthy diet will help your skin maintain the right moisture levels, so make sure to drink enough water and include foods like fish, oats, yoghurt and vegetables in your daily meals to hydrate your body from within.

  • If you think that you need some extra support then try taking an omega-3 supplement such as cod liver oil or algae oil (consult with your doctor first to find the right supplement for you).

Don't neglect your feet

  • Raise your hand if you completely neglect your feet the minute pedicure season ends!

  • If you need an easy way to keep your feet soft and moisturised without actually touching your feet then you need Uriage Bariederm Stick for Fissures and Cracks. It's so easy to apply, just use the stick like a deodorant on your feet before you go to bed and you'll never have to deal with cracks and dry skin again!
