An Easy Guide to Aromatherapy

I recently made the shocking discovery that my beloved scented candle collection might be killing me. As dramatic as it sounds, burning commercial candles exposes you to the hazardous chemicals found in paraffin wax, the most common type of wax used to make candles. So what alternative is just as relaxing and leaves your house smelling heavenly? Aromatherapy! Aromatherapy is the use of aromatic plant extracts and essential oils for healing and cosmetic purposes. You can find an essential oil for every problem, here's a quick guide to get you started.

When you need to wind down

Burning essential oils both relaxes your body and leaves your room smelling incredible. Traditional oils used to relax are ones like lavender, peppermint and chamomile. You can make your own blend and burn it in an oil diffuser, but an easier route to take would be to buy a ready-made oil blend. My favourites are from the brand Puressentiel, which is also where I got my oil diffuser. The best blend for winding down is the Diffuse Zen, but my favourite is the Cocooning blend because it makes your environment feel really cozy. When it comes to diffusers you can go for basic ones like the Gentle Heat Diffuser, or a more extravagant one like the API ultrasonic Diffuser & Humidifier. If you don't feel like using a diffuser or you just need something quick to get you relaxed and ready for bed you can also use the Puressentiel Rest & Relax air spray for an immediate soothing effect!

When you want to customise your haircare routine

Do you struggle to find hair products which work for your specific hair needs? Instead of spending a lot of money on new products, try adding a few drops of essential oil to your shampoo to achieve your desired results! Struggling with oily hair? Add a few drops of Peppermint essential oil. Experiencing hair loss? Add a few drops of Rosemary essential oil. Suffering from dandruff? Add a few drops of Lemongrass Essential oil.

When you're feeling ill

Puressentiel's Respiratory range is specifically formulated to promote respiratory wellness and fight against seasonal illnesses. The first thing I do when I feel a cold coming on or allergies kicking in is spray my house with the Purifying Air Spray, which contains 41 essential oils to eliminate odours and purify your home. Then I use the Respiratory Nasal Spray to treat congestion. Using natural products like these which don't contain synthetic ingredients helps to strengthen your immune system in the long run, leaving you less susceptible to common colds and allergies.

When you're covered in bumps and bruises

If you're as accident-prone as I am then you'll know how annoying it is to wake up to a new bruise on a daily basis. That's why I always have a tube of Puressntiel Bumps and Bruises Gel on my nightstand. It's made of 33 essential oils and has a 99.9% natural formula. And the best part? It doesn't feel sticky or greasy!
